In this introductory course about improvisation in quilting, you will learn various techniques and concepts that are helpful for improv quilting:
- You will learn to put together a complementary color palette, ideal for this project.

I will show you 4 different improvisational techniques, such as cutting without rulers, building blocks, and composing.

You will learn what it is to improvise.

You will create 4 sections with these techniques: strip improvisation, improv triangles, soft curves, and random pairs. With these, you will create your own quilt.
Necessary materials:
Sewing machine that makes a straight stitch, quarter-inch foot, fabrics, thread, rotary cutter, ruler, iron. ALL LEVELS.

In this class Carolina shows different techniques to improvise and create your very own quilt and you also learn things about colors. I went with the method of the soft curves and it was so much fun! Cutting without measuring and without a ruler was really liberating. Everything is well explained and the class is divided into different parts, which makes it easier when you want to rewatch a special sequence. I will definitely try at least one other method of this improvisation class! Thanks Carolina for this great class and your inspirations!

If you’re as terrified of improv as I am, I heartily recommend Carolina’s improv class. I appreciated that it was prerecorded so you can take it at your own pace, as many times as you want. You can also do any of the four (or all of the four) techniques in one sitting/quilt or as you want. The techniques and thought process behind improv have carried through to additional pieces that I’ve made. It’s really helped me rethink my approach to piecing.

If you are curious to learn about improv techniques at an introductory level, I highly recommend this class. Carolina starts with choosing the color palette and then moves to detailed instructions that are easy to follow. I am more confident now and eager to use these new tools in my quilting designs.
