I am a textile artist with a background in visual arts and a specialization in embroidery on images on different supports.
Through the technique of artistic embroidery, I discovered a way to bring my fantasies to life: photography is like my canvas, and with threads, I add texture and three-dimensionality using different stitches, thicknesses, materials, and colors.
My journey with embroidery began nine years ago when I had the idea to embroider on a photo of my 4-year-old daughter, using the basic stitches my grandmother had taught me. I was so pleased with the result that I decided to formally train in this technique, while adding my personal touch by creating my own tools and experimenting with new materials.
That passion grew more and more, and added to the acceptance of the people, I dared to create more work. This led to my first series, “Madrid Underwater,” where I imagined the city flooded, with iconic buildings surrounded by marine life. I was later selected as the artist of the season at Espacio Abierto Madrid, and from there I have participated in exhibitions and outstanding projects, such as a monograph for the Museo del Prado, workshops at the Museo ABC and publications in magazines such as Lula Japón and Photo Trouvée Magazine.
Since that initial moment, I haven’t stopped learning and creating new forms of expression through embroidery. When embroidering a photograph, I always seek to give the image a new language and meaning. My goal is to create a piece that tells more than what is seen at first glance. By combining photography with embroidery, I give these images frozen in time a new interpretation. Through the threads, I add color, volume, and a touch of magic that transforms the real into something fantastic.
I live in the historic center of Madrid, right in the flea market where there are many images that inspire me, it's where I buy my old photographs to embroider, and I’m very draw to old objects with stories behind them. All of this drives me to look at a photograph and think of new ways to bring it to life with embroidery

My name is Therese Groeneweg and I am born in Rotterdam the Netherlands.
In the Netherlands I studies interior architecture and had my own company.
After twice having an accident and broke both hips and my knee, I did get protheses for that and had to stop with my work. Then, my husband and I decided to emigrate to France 6 years ago to a house in the forest and nature. That is where I started with my fiberart.
It was introduced to me through my youngest daughter when she came to us with Christmas and gave me some wool and needles as a present.
I did never heard of it, but I always made oilpaintings and made etches. So I gave it a try and got hooked.
Nowadays I am a fulltime professional fiber artist also under the name Needlefelt Addict and developed my own technique.
I work on velvet and always use several colors (not more then 3 next to white and black) that represent with what I make. I never know what I am going to make, I let myself lead through wool and spirits. My work has a ‘soul’ and a meaning.
Since 2024 I also exhibit in galleries, I have exhibited in Milan Italy, Knokke Belgium, and ofcourse France and the Netherlands.
This year I will be represented by a gallery in Brussels, and some of my work is now off to Venice as well.
