‘m an artist based in Berlin. I started making quilts about 10 years ago, shortly after returning from my solo art show in NYC, which included a series of experimental animation pieces. While in Manhattan, I came across a quilt shop that caught my attention. Intrigued, I bought supplies and began imagining ways to combine patchwork with my experimental approach to animation. A few years later, I returned to New York to present my first quilt-focused exhibition, titled BIG SCREEN, which featured a series of quilts and animations created using patches from those quilts as frames.
My grandma was a talented seamstress, and when she died, I inherited her sewing machine; unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to learn from her directly, so I took a single sewing lesson to learn the basics, and I’ve developed the rest of my technique on my own.
Much of my creative vision is inspired by the modern art movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries - from the brushstrokes of the Impressionists, to the textile work of Anni Albers, to the geometric forms of Constructivist artists such as Malevich and El Lissitzky.
My primary drive in making patchwork is to invent unique patterns using strictly solid colors, allowing the tiled shapes to form the visual language. I have a great passion for exploring the composition of color and form, which is why I find patchwork so rewarding. I can’t say I have a favorite color, but with each new section I often choose one to lead the way.
In recent years, reusing scraps from previous projects has become an essential part of my process. My quilting technique often involves trimming larger stitched patches into specific shapes, a process that creates extra material that can be used in future work - a sort of perpetual creative cycle.
Finally, on November 28, 2024, I’ll be opening a solo exhibition in Berlin of a new textile project that explores my family’s connection to textiles. If you’re in Berlin, I’d love for you all to see it.

I live and works on Dharug and Gundungurra Country in Katoomba, NSW. I create stitched landscapes of places I live in and visit. I alsorun stitched landscape workshops.
I’ve been sewing and knitting since I could hold needle. Mum was an avid creator and artist gave me every opportunity and encouragement; she couldn’t stop making things herself, and I just made alongside her every day. She wouldn’t let me use the sewing machine until I was ten and so everything was by hand until then.

Art and Maths were my favourite subjects at school; for me they make a perfect mix of creativity and logic. I went on to study architecture at Sydney Uni, and selected art subjects for all my electives. When my kids were born, I changed careers to teaching, and taught at a Steiner school which had a strong emphasis on creativity as a way of learning. My children have left home and I’m currently studying a Master of Art Therapy.

I create dye baths from plant material I collect from my garden, surrounding bush and the places I visit. Often the same piece of fabric or thread is overdyed several times, and holds memories of the places I’ve visited. When you look at my work you can literally touch the place it comes from. I use both plant dyed and thrifted fabric and sometimes a combination of both. I love combining the earthy tones from plant dyes alongside the brighter colours of thrifted threads.

I start stitching without a plan. I let the needle find a path across the cloth, following the line of a rock, branch or a thought. My best work comes when it takes days or weeks for the images to materialise. Sometimes I start with stitching a border, giving the piece a contained space in which to emerge. I often stitch words into my pieces Often layers of fabric and stitch overlay each other. My stitched landscapes connect me to place, time and the people around me.
I’m happiest either by a campfire or stitching with a dog on my lap and cup of tea beside me.

My paternal grandmother was the one who introduced me to sewing. I was only 7 years old when she let me use her sewing machine to create doll clothes and pillows, sparking a lifelong passion. Later, I had the opportunity to refine my quilting skills while I was in grad school, where I joined a wonderful group of women at a local quilt shop. My grandmother and I actually learned to quilt together during that time, and it was such a special experience that deepened our bond.
Since then, I’ve evolved my practice into fiber art, merging my love of fabric and quilting with my background in photography. My work is deeply rooted in exploring identity and family history, often working with personal images and using fabrics like silk and velvet to reflect on how our lives and memories are intertwined. The colors I work with depend heavily on the body of work I’m exploring. For instance, I have a series of monochromatic quilts that delve into my family origins, while another body of work focused on self-portraiture is rich with purples, pinks, golds, and blues.
Each piece I create is hand-sewn and carefully crafted, whether it’s inspired by family photographs or my own self-portraits. It’s a meditative process for me, one that allows me to explore memory, lineage, and personal transformation in a tactile way. Over the years, my work has been featured in galleries and museums across the U.S., as well as online spaces, and I’ve connected with the larger fiber art and quilting community through various artist memberships, including SAQA and SDA.
Quilting has always felt like a connection between past and present for me, especially considering the time I spent learning alongside my grandmother. Now, as a photo-based fiber artist working in the Detroit area, I continue to use those early lessons as a foundation to push my work into new, experimental directions.
