Modern Quilting Blog

Greetings, art enthusiasts and quilt lovers! It is with great pleasure and excitement that I invite you to join me on a vibrant artistic odyssey at the upcoming Festival of Quilts in Birmingham. I am Carolina Oneto, and I am thrilled to present my solo exhibition, “Chroma Tales,” a tapestry of colour, creativity, and storytelling that will mesmerize and inspire all who venture into its kaleidoscopic world.

“Chroma Tales” is not just a collection of quilts; it is a manifestation of my passion for colour and my dedication to the art of storytelling through textile. Each quilt in this exhibition is a labor of love, a testament to the power of creativity and imagination. Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of influences – from renowned artists to music, social issues to nature’s beauty – every stitch and every hue in these quilts weaves a narrative that transcends mere fabric and thread.

As you step into the exhibition space, prepare to be enveloped in a symphony of colours that dance and sing, inviting you to explore, contemplate, and delight in the visual feast before you. Each quilt in the exhibition narrates a distinct story, drawing inspiration from diverse influences. Some pay tribute to renowned artists like Victor Vasarely and Kandinsky through stunning textile tributes. Others embody musical concepts, as seen in ‘Vibrato’, where colours pulsate like vibrant waves. Social issues inspire creations like ‘Equality’, weaving a binary code message with diverse flag colour schemes. Nature’s beauty permeates pieces such as ‘Coloured Bubbles’, capturing the play of light on bubbles through skilful curves and transparencies. ‘Jardin de Amapolas’ delicately portrays the ephemeral allure of poppies, infusing the quilt with fleeting beauty.

But the magic of “Chroma Tales” lies not only in the visual splendour of the quilts but also in the narratives they carry within each fold and seam. It is an invitation to explore the depths of colour psychology, the symbiosis of form and function, and the eternal dance between tradition and innovation in the art of quilting.

In addition to the exhibition, I am excited to announce that I will be hosting two lectures as part of the Festival of Quilts program. Join me as we delve into the art of quilting, exploring its rich history, its contemporary relevance, and the boundless possibilities it offers for artistic expression. Whether you are a seasoned quilter, an art enthusiast, or simply curious about the world of textiles, these lectures promise to be insightful, engaging, and full of inspiration.

Furthermore, I am honoured to be leading 3 different  workshops where participants can learn firsthand the techniques and secrets behind the creation of my quilts. From colour theory to design, from fabric selection to piecing methods, these workshops are an opportunity to immerse yourself in the creative process and unleash your own artistic potential in the world of quilting.
