In this new showcase I’m featuring four Modern Quilters that you will love!
Claire
I make naturally dyed and hand painted textiles in my 300 year old hay-loft studio in the mountains in the South of France. As an illustrator I work with colour every day and I am curious to explore the colour world of natural dyeing, understand more about plants and the colours they give us so that I can be even more connected to the beautiful nature that surrounds us.

With plant extracts or foreging wild plants close to my home I am dreaming up colours and botanical illustrations. All colours are chosen intuitively or what I have found while foreging or picked from our garden.
It all comes together in naturally dyed textile designs. Each textile piece is naturally dyed and painted by hand using brushes and time.

Tatiana Castillo
The first time I held a needle I was seven years old. My grandma tried to teach me different textile techniques like embroidery and knitting.. but the embroidery was the one I kept in my memory. I like how it allows us to be spontaneous and the enormous variety of applications it has.

I am interested in finding the connection and the dialogue between textiles, territory and body. Exploring about the relationship among folk art iconographies in different communities and female identities. I see the body as territory of memory that keeps track of life, which constitutes one of the triggers of my creative exploration.

For me, embroidering and weaving are actions that resemble writing; creating meanings as one stitch joins the other, like one word after another, enforcing narratives and collective memory.
And talking about materials I love using opaque tones, those that make me think of old pictures or vintage posters. And I have a big fascination in using yarns and different fibers to enrich the pieces I make. So I’ve been exploring different kinds of threads and fabrics lately. In my work I’m constantly trying new textures both with materials but also stitches.
JESSICA VETOR
She has been sewing all her life and began quilting in 2001. As a 5 th generation quilter, the love of fabric and thread runs deep in her veins. Jessica has been publishing quilt patterns for several years. Her most well-known pattern is the Selvage Bookshelf Quilt, which has sold thousands of copies all around the world. This pattern was recently re-released with a whole new set of block instructions. With a keen eye for color, she has made close to 700 quilts, and continues to experiment with design patterns to share with her Instagram followers. Her work was prominently featured in the television show The Walking Dead (Season 10, Episode7). Jessica enjoys doing trunk shows where she can share the detailed stories of her quilting adventures.

Jessica words her quilting style as “Traditional with a side of modern flare.” She finds her happiest moments when creating scrappy quilts from her stash. It doesn’t take one long to realize from Jessica’s Instagram (@jessicaquilter) that she loves purple and will find unique ways to incorporate it into her work. The use of selvages is another favorite of hers. She says, “Selvages are like little bits of memories attached to any project you may have made with that fabric.
